Dr. Janssen, DVM

Doctor/Practice Owner
 
Dr. Janssen earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1994 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  He worked at an emergency and referral clinic in Des Moines for 10 years, and then went to two general practice clinics in the Des Moines area for combined 8 years.  West Side Veterinary Clinic was purchased by Dr. Janssen in 2012.  He greatly enjoys taking care of pets, and getting to know the pet’s owners. Dr. Janssen is patient, understanding and will take the time to answer questions and thoroughly go over your options to help your pet live the best life it can.  He has one dog named Ruby whom he enjoys taking on walks.  In his free time, he likes doing things with his family, participating in church activities, doing DIY projects, working on computers and cars, watching sports, and fishing.
 
 

Mary

Veterinary Assistant

Mary graduated from Kirkwood Community College’s Veterinary Assistant program in the fall of 2013 and has been with West Side Vet Clinic ever since her internship that summer. Mary excels in customer service and provides an excellent experience for both you and your pet. In her free time, Mary enjoys going on walks with her two dogs – Riley and Butler, spending time with her cats – Piper, Rosie and Cricket and taking care of her guinea pigs. She also enjoys reading and crocheting. Many of her projects are available to purchase here at the clinic.

 

 

Bhreanna

Veterinary Assistant

Bhreanna has worked for West Side Veterinary Clinic since the summer of 2021. She has taken classes through Ashworth Community College to further her knowledge of how to provide for the well being of your pet. Bhreanna is proficient in providing quality care during your pet’s visit. At home, she spends time watching Bluey with her daughter, taking care of her cat and is a big advocate of adoption.

 

 

 

Rikki

Veterinary Assistant

Rikki started at West Side Vet Clinic in the summer of 2023. She received her bachelors degree in animal science from Iowa State University. Rikki is a avid learner and will give your pet the same treatment as if it were her own. Rikki also brings a quick-witted sense of humor to the clinic that keeps us all laughing. In her free time, Rikki spends time with her dog – Duke and her cat – Oliver.

 

 

 

 

 

Courtney

Veterinary Technician

Courtney joined our team here at West Side Vet Clinic in the summer of 2023. She graduated with an associates degree in veterinary technology from DMACC. Courtney strives to be an advocate for your pets to make their life the best it can be. In her free time, she likes to garden, read, draw and spend time with her cat – Wobbles and her two dogs – Paddington and Herbie.

 

 

 

Jazz

Feline Resident/Food Inspector

Jazz has been a resident at West Side since 2019. Since then, he has quickly made himself irreplicable as a permanent fixture at the clinic. As well as doing his security rotations several times a day, he is proficient in canned food inspection. He inspects a total of 2 cans daily and will lead us to the fridge (since we often get lost or distracted) when he is ready to inspect another. In his limited free time, he loves to chase string, roll in catnip and eat Greenies.

 

Craig

I.T. Manager

Craig joined our staff in the fall of 2024. He is our most recent addition but has proven himself in a very short time. He handles all of our technical needs. We would be lost without his expertise.
